MiPiTester Ultra Box Full Kit with 3 Sockets For UFS-BGA153, UFS-BGA254, UFS-BGA297 with MiPi EMMC & UFS ISP Adapter

The MiPiTester Ultra Box Full Kit is an FPGA-based UFS and eMMC programmer bundle for mobile forensics and physical data recovery. It pairs the MiPi Ultra box with three ICFriend UFS sockets (BGA153, BGA254 and BGA297) and an ICFriend eMMC/UFS ISP adapter with UFS and eMMC ISP cable kits, so storage can be accessed either in-circuit on the board or directly after chip-off.

For ISP (in-system programming) extraction, the ISP adapter and flex cables are soldered to the ISP pinouts on the phone's logic board. This lets you read and write the UFS or eMMC storage without removing the chip - useful when a handset is dead, will not boot, or has a damaged screen or housing but the data on it still needs to be recovered.

For chip-off work, the three sockets take UFS chips in BGA153, BGA254 and BGA297 packages once they have been removed from the board, so the chip can be read or written directly. Three black socket shims (limit frames) are also supplied with the kit.

The supplier specifies read and write speeds of up to 380 MB/s over USB 3.0, with support for mainstream eMMC and UFS chips including Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron. The software includes an online HEX editor and a built-in Linux file manager for editing blocks directly, without reading or writing the whole storage. A Windows 10 or 11 PC with an NVMe SSD is required.

The kit is aimed at digital forensic units, law enforcement labs, data recovery specialists and phone shops offering data recovery from damaged or dead smartphones. According to the supplier it can also be used on boot loop, dead boot and system partition faults, and on car navigation and drone flash storage.

Software and Downloads:

• MiPiTester Plus and Ultra software, current release 1.16.2026. This is the one to use with this kit.
• MiPiTester Pro MINI and old box, release V3.13 with firmware 10405. Not needed for the Ultra.
• Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, needed on Windows 7 and Windows 10. Install VC_redist.x86.exe before the MiPiTester software. Download it free from Microsoft at aka.ms/vs/17/release/vc_redist.x86.exe.
• The manufacturer ICFriend keeps the latest software here: icfriend.com. Always check there for a newer release than the one you have.

Installing the software:

1. On Windows 7 or Windows 10, install VC_redist.x86.exe first. Windows 11 normally already has it.
2. Run the MiPiTester setup file and let it finish.
3. Plug the box into a USB 3.0 port on the computer motherboard itself, not a hub and not a front panel extension. The box draws its power from that port.
4. If you only have USB 2.0, the port cannot supply enough current. You must power the box from an external 5V charger as well.
5. Open Device Manager and check the MiPiTester driver is listed. If it is there, the box is connected and ready.
6. If the software will not read the partition table, close it and run it as Administrator. That is almost always the cause.

Using the NB universal sockets:

• Mind the IC direction when you seat a chip. Line the chip up with the marking on the socket interface, do not guess it.
• Socket sizes: MP11.5x13A covers BGA297, and the same family covers BGA153 and BGA254.
• Use the matching socket shim (limit frame) for the chip you are reading. Three are supplied with this kit.
• To add UFS ISP support to an NB socket, the board needs modifying: remove R80 and R82, and replace R79 and R81 with 0 ohm links. The socket supports UFS ISP once that is done.

ISP work and getting support:

• For ISP, the adapter and flex cables solder to the ISP pads on the phone board, so the storage can be read without taking the chip off.
• If you need help from the manufacturer with an ISP job, they ask for clear, high resolution photos of the board, the ISP points and your wiring before they will answer. Blurry photos get no reply.
